County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

• At 9:49 p.m. Nicholas L. Bennett, 30, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 9:13 a.m. Adam R. Heffelfinger, 35, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for a criminal trespass.

Sheriff's Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:55 a.m. on Friday, Jeffrey A. Huff, 48, Greencastle, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2015 GMC Savana when he hit a deer.

Corporal Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Carla G. Plessinger, 61, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 300 West in a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:16 a.m. on Wednesday, Anthony L. Hendricks, 25, Cloverdale, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2016 Ford Focus when he lost traction on the wet surface.

The vehicle left the north side of the road and hit a mailbox at 4723 E. SR 240 then continued through a fence and flipped once before coming to rest in a field.

The vehicle was towed but Hendricks was not injured.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven recent incidents:

• At 7:43 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1901 E. State Road 240 for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:49 and determined there was a maintenance issue with the alarm system. The alarm was not reset. GFD went back into service at 8:31 p.m.

• At 2:42 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:47 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:50 p.m.

• At 5:14 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Frazier and Jackson streets for a low-hanging cable. Firefighters found the cable at 5:24 and moved it out of the way of traffic. GFD went back into service at 5:36 p.m.

• At 9:47 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for two individuals trapped in an elevator. Firefighters arrived at 9:52 and freed them. GFD went back into service at 10:08 p.m.

• At 9:42 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 2867 S. CR 150 West for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:45 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD went back into service at 9:55 a.m.

• At 6:23 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident near 507 Crown St. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:26 and cleaned debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 6:33 p.m.

• At 7:11 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was alerted to a small, unattended outside fire in the area of Putnam County Hospital. Firefighters arrived at 7:18 and extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 7:35 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed eight medical assists.
