Kappa Delta Phi earns highest honor

Thursday, July 8, 2021

Gamma Phi chapter of Kappa Delta Phi sorority has received the national organization’s top honor for welfare assistance to the children of Putnam County.

The slogan for the sorority’s national welfare project is “Kids Depend on People.”

Each year Kappa Delta Phi honors those chapters which best demonstrate that slogan.

Suzanne Lachmayer, immediate past president of Gamma Phi chapter, accepted the award at the Kappa Delta Phi national convention in Kansas City, Mo., held June 17-19. Julie Chew, the current president of Gamma Phi, also attended the convention.

Members of the local Kappa Delta Phi chapter concentrate their philanthropic efforts on the health and welfare of the children of Putnam County. The welfare assistance award recognized their supportive efforts during the past year.

Their community services included providing funds for “brown bag” meals for children during the pandemic school closings; purchasing Christmas gifts and food supplies for eight families, including 44 children; purchasing specific clothing items requested by each county elementary school; making cash donations to restock food pantries during the pandemic; and purchasing bedroom furniture and bed linens for two children’s bedrooms in the Habitat for Humanity home now under construction.
