Brazil Concert Band sets show for Sunday

BRAZIL -- On Sunday, July 25, the Brazil Concert Band will present New York, New York at 8 p.m. rain or shine in Forest Park.

The BCB and Director Matthew S. Huber journeyed to New York City back in 2004 and performed on Ellis Island. While in the Big Apple, the BCB members visited all the world famous sights and attended Broadway musicals.

BCB members saw “Chicago” starring Page Davis and will perform “Selections From Chicago” with “And All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “Roxie” and “We Both Reached For The Gun.”

Frank Erickson arranged “Richard Rogers: A Symphonic Portrait,” including several hit Broadway favorites by the legendary composer.

In “Gershwin,” arranged by Robert Russell Bennett, the band will play “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Strike Up the Band,” “Embraceable You” and “I Got Rhythm.”

A classic among Broadway shows is “The Phantom Of The Opera” with “Think Of Me,” “Angel Of Music” and “The Music Of The Night” in Warren Barker’s arrangement for band.

John Philip Sousa and his band were based in New York City and during the BCB’s trip to NYC the marches “Manhattan Beach” and the “New York Hippodrome” were showcased on Ellis Island.

Edwin Franko Goldman, leader of the Goldman Band which played in Central Park, lived in Terre Haute briefly as a child where his father was a judge. The BCB will play Goldman’s “Onward-Upward” and “On The Mall.”

The BCB will also perform “Theme From New York, New York,” arranged by Frank Cofield and “Old New York Medley, arranged by Paul Yoder which features “While Strolling Thru The Park,” “Bicycle Built For Two” and “The Bowery.”

The Brazil Concert Band performs every Sunday in Forest Park through August.
