Jo Ellen (Hickman) Cary

Jo Ellen (Hickman) Cary, 77, died of natural causes Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, Calif.

She was born July 20, 1943 in North Carolina to Hal and Janice Hickman and raised in Greencastle, where she graduated from Greencastle High School in 1961.

She later moved to California, where she lived the rest of her life surrounded by family.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Cary; her daughter, Kimberly, and granddaughter Ella Hecko; her son, Daniel, his wife Cordelia and grandsons Myles and Finn Hecko, as well as grandson Joey. She is also survived by her sister, Hallie Sue Sutherlin, and her family and stepchildren Amber, Chris and Will and their families.

Jo Ellen loved living near the ocean and sharing life’s moments with her family. She inspired those closest to her to be kind by being so kind herself. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.

Although there will be no service, you can honor Jo Ellen’s memory by thinking of her when doing something especially kind for someone you love.
