Brazil Concert Band playing a variety this Sunday night

BRAZIL — The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew Huber, will present On With The Show Sunday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. in Forest Park, rain or shine.

A wide range of beloved music will include “Poet and Peasant Overture” by Franz Von Suppé and arranged by Henry Fillmore. The featured soloist on alto saxophone will be Diana Joslin in this world-renowned classic work.

The band will recognize composer Aaron Copland in “A Copland Tribute” adapted for band by Clare Grundman with its famous “Fanfare for the Common Man,” which was written to honor the role of the common man during World War II.

Fans of Agent 007 will enjoy “Bond ... James Bond” arranged by Stephen Bulla with “James Bond Theme,” “Goldfinger,” “Nobody Does It Better,” “Skyfall” and “Live and Let Die.”

Artie Shaw will also be remembered in “A Tribute to Artie Shaw” arranged by James Christensen with “Dancing In the Dark,” “Begin The Beguine” and “Stardust.”

Elvis will receive honors in “Selections From All Shook Up” arranged by Ted Ricketts including the title song plus “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me Tender” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” The band played this medley at Graceland back in 2010.

“Cartoon Capers” by Stephen Bulla will include excerpts of music heard in classic animated cartoons.

Fred Jewell’s circus overture “Spick and Span” will be performed along with the marches “Tenth Regiment March” by Robert Browne Hall, “Supreme Triumph” by Jewell and “The Harmonica Wizard” by John Philip Sousa.

Brazil Main Street will serve a spaghetti dinner from the concession stand this Sunday.

The Jackson Township Community Band will perform at the Indiana State Fair in front of the Home and Family Arts Pavilion on Thursday, Aug. 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Brazil Concert Band will perform every Sunday in Forest Park throughout August.
