Advisory board to discuss ARPA funds Wednesday
In the first of three meetings on the matter, members of the Putnam County Commissioners and Putnam County Council are set to discuss plans for the county’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1 in the Commissioners Courtroom on the first floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.
With the county set to receive $7 million in funds from the federal program established for COVID-19 relief, members of both of the county’s governing bodies were chosen to consider proposals for the money.
The advisory board will be composed of Commissioners Rick Woodall and Tom Helmer as well as County Council members Dave Fuhrman, Stephanie Campbell and Jay Alcorn.
The federal government has instructed local governments to use the money to invest in things such as infrastructure, broadband and other investments to make the community a better place to live and attract people.
Woodall told the Banner Graphic the county has already received proposals from the Reelsville Water Authority and South 43 Water Association.
Officials also expect proposals from local fire departments and conservancy districts.
The advisory board will meet again in August and September to further consider options and hear proposals.
The county has until the end of 2024 to establish a plan to spend the money and until the end of 2026 to make all expenditures.
Final decisions on American Rescue Plan expenditures remain the responsibility of the Putnam County Commissioners.
