INDOT to hold public information meeting for State Road 236 project

ROACHDALE – A public information meeting will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 12 on the State Road 236 project in Putnam County, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Roachdale Christian Church, 1 N. Walnut St., Roachdale.

The meeting will give an overview of the construction project under way and discuss upcoming closures.

The project was awarded to Milestone Contractors for $9.1 million. The project spans from U.S. 231 to just west of State Road 75.

INDOT said the project will complete a cold in-place recycle under four separate road closures. A cold in-place recycle treatment, a type of resurface similar to a full-depth reclamation, is an environmentally friendly method of removing and reusing the existing asphalt surface.

The method involves grinding off the top two to five inches of asphalt surface and mixing the crushed asphalt with an asphalt recycling agent, and placing it back down with a paver. The result is a much stronger, stable base for the new road. It also results in less hauling away of materials.

INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
