RUSSELLVILLE — With the resignation of one of its own, Russellville’s police force is set to welcome a new officer close to home.

On a recommendation from Town Marshal Matt Biggs, the Russellville Town Council approved for Roachdale Town Marshal Adrian Lepine to serve as a deputy marshal Wednesday evening.

The move comes as Mike Downing recently submitted a letter of resignation.

Biggs said that though he is full time in Roachdale, Lepine’s training as a certified police officer follows him to Russellville. He also provided that the town would not have to invest in additional equipment.

Lepine would serve alongside Biggs and Putnam County sheriff’s deputy Derek Line, who was tapped as a reserve deputy last January.

Lepine became Roachdale’s town marshal in June 2018. He previously worked with the Roachdale Police Department since February 2016 and was its training officer. He worked security for Indiana University Health from 2007 to 2015.

In other business:

• The council approved for Steve Brock of Therber Brock & Associates to proceed with a bond anticipation note (BAN) for the town’s water tower project. Town Attorney Stu Weliever explained that a BAN is a temporary “mini bond” which covers up-front expenses, and that it would not impact the project’s estimated costs.

Clerk-Treasurer Martha Mandleco joined Biggs, Weliever and the full council for the meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Russellville Town Council is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Russellville Community Center.
