Linda R. Smith

Linda R. Smith, 74, of Brookston, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette after a brief illness.

She was born on May 16, 1947 in Greencastle to the late Nelson York and Wilma (Malayer) Zimmerman.

On July 16, 1967 in Greencastle she married Richard Smith, and he survives.

Linda attended Waveland and Bainbridge high schools and graduated in 1965. She then went to Ball State University, graduating with an associate’s degree and went to work for Eli Lily in Clinton, Lafayette and Indianapolis where she made lifelong friends.

She was also co-owner and office manager of McCord Bypass Tire and McCord Tire Service with her husband for many years.

She enjoyed reading, rescuing cats and spending time with her grandchildren.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 54 years, Richard; children Brian (CJ) Smith, Ft. Collins, Colo., Beth Smith, Seattle, Wash.; sister Cindy (Brian) Weller; brother Nelson (Susan) York, Jr., and grandchildren; Ian, Rachel and Allison Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Larry (Butch) York and Todd York and stepfather George (Pete) Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home, 102 E. Washington St., Roachdale. Burial will follow in New Maysville Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of donor’s choice.
