Taste of Putnam County set Friday

Monday, August 30, 2021

The Taste of Putnam County is back this Friday on the Putnam County Courthouse Square.

Thanks to the partnership between Main Street Greencastle and the Putnam County Chamber, the event will take place during the festivities of the September First Friday from 5-9 p.m.

Taste of Putnam County is an opportunity to sample the wares of local restaurants and vendors in one location.

Some of the food to enjoy is from The Fluttering Duck, Wally’s Food Truck, Hogg Wild BBQ, Chandler’s Orchard Food Truck, Kona Ice, Hatchet House BBQ, Rizzo’s, Healthies, Breadworks by Bridges, DePauw Ullem Campus Farm, Scoops, Almost Home, Living Water Farm and many more.

First Friday with The Taste is open to anyone who enjoys great food, music, local vendors, throwing axes and games in a family atmosphere.

Besides the food and the normal attractions at First Friday, the event will also featured additional kids’ games from Big Bounce Fun House, soccer darts and ax throwing sponsored by the Steve Hibler for sheriff campaign.

Beginning between 7 and 7:30 p.m., there will be live music on two stages. 87 Southbound will play the Courthouse stage, while Average House Band will play the South Indiana Street stage.

There will be live acoustic music in front of #Harmony on the north side of Courthouse Square from 5-7 p.m.

Tickets are available at the event from the Chamber for $1 each and then used as money to buy from each vendor. Once again, the consumer gets to vote for the best food in Putnam County. Customers will be given a voting ticket for every 10 food tickets they purchase. They can use those tickets to vote for their favorite food from Putnam County.

The last three years, Bon Appetit has been the winner of the Taste of Putnam County.

“We look forward to seeing you at The Taste and hearing who you think has the best food in Putnam County,” Chamber Executive Director Brian Cox said.

  • Meanwhile we shut down schools and contact trace and disrupt lives. Was there a music fest this weekend? Strangely our local paper hasn’t mentioned it…

  • Let’s see how the paper handles this one. They bungled the story last week about Music Fest and then pulled the online article after receiving pressure from the hospital because one of its employees was quoted as saying our COVID numbers look good. Not a great look for the paper or the hospital.

This week, they have a chance to redeem themselves and interview the director of the chamber who also happens to be a member of the school board (appointed by the city).

  • Mask up the kids! Out for 24 days! Oh and by the way drop the kids off at the bounce house downtown so they can all slobber over everything, that’s fine too!

    Mixed messages is an understatement

  • The masker/ vac group very silent. I interpret silence as approval for the event going on. Hmmm
