Cloverdale School Board passes 2022 budget, TAG policy

CLOVERDALE — The Cloverdale School Board passed two items for consideration during a short session Monday evening.

The board voted to adopt the 2022 Cloverdale Community Schools budget, which had already been advertised and the subject of a public hearing. Board members also approved the district’s capital projects and school bus replacement plans and resolutions related to the adoptions.

As its other non-regular item under new business, the board also approved the district’s teacher appreciation grant (TAG) policy. Superintendent Greg Linton said the policy was unchanged from last year’s requirements.

In other business:

• The board heard a comment from parent Heather Evans regarding how long to quarantine students. Stating that she had no preference for or against masking, Evans advocated that child care and missing out on school were major concerns.

Board President Vivian Whitaker stated that school administrators have been evaluating COVID-positive numbers within the district. The board will hold a special meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. to consider reducing contract tracing quarantine days.

The board also recognized Cloverdale School’s Students of the Month:

• Cloverdale Elementary School: Killian Blair

• Cloverdale Middle School: Asyria Ford

• Cloverdale High School: Daphanie Geiger

The board also approved the following personnel report:

• Resignation: Shelby Aguirre - Cloverdale Elementary School special education teacher;

• Employment: Deb Estep - Cloverdale Elementary School special education teacher; Janice Milligan - part-time CES/CMS cafeteria (3.5 hours); Chelsey Adams - part-time CES/CMS cafeteria (3.5 hours); Jordan Garrett - Knoy Center instructional assistant; and Alesha Pattison - Knoy Center instructional assistant;

• Coaching:

— Resignations: Jim Spencer - Cloverdale High School varsity volleyball coach; Liz Spencer - Cloverdale High School junior varsity volleyball coach; and Bambi Wiley - Cloverdale High School cheer coach;

­­— Hires: Missy Carrel - interim Cloverdale High School varsity volleyball coach; Jessie Koosman - interim Cloverdale High School junior varsity volleyball coach; and Kate Myers - Cloverdale Middle School cross country coach;

— Volunteer: Taylor Pettit - volunteer Cloverdale High School assistant volleyball coach.

The board also approved a request under the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Joining Whitaker, Linton and the whole board were principals Sonny Stoltz, Dawn Tucker and Mary Jane Elkins, Curriculum Director Cathy Ames and Corporation Deputy Treasurer Lynn Lotz.

The next meeting of the Cloverdale School Board is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Arthur L. Johnson Administration Office near Cloverdale High School.
