Greencastle Parks Department to offer variety of upcoming programs

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department has several programs coming up in the next few months and urges local residents to take part.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22 the Parks Department will sponsor National Ice Cream Cone Day with a special Lego build. Each participant will get to build his or her own ice cream truck that they can take home and add to their cityscape. The program will be held at the Robe-Ann Park bandshell at 6 p.m.

Coming up on Oct. 2 will be the annual Glow Throw disc golf tournament at Big Walnut Sports Park. The event is suitable for beginners who want to learn about disc golf because people will be there to teach players about the course and the rules of disc golf.

Registration starts at 4 p.m. Round one starts at 5 p.m. and the glow round starts around 8:15 p.m. The cost is $10 per player. Glow-in-the-dark discs will be available for purchase as well as T-shirts.

On Monday, Oct. 4 the Parks Department have a gingerbread building workshop from 5:30-7 p.m. Persons are asked to pre-register, so officials know how many kits are needed.

Kids will be taught how to build their own gingerbread house for the opportunity to enter the Monster House Challenge at the Park Board meeting on Oct. 6. If you choose to leave your gingerbread house for entry you have a chance to win a prize. Along with your gingerbread house you may also build your own version the Monster House out of Legos for a chance to win a second prize.

On Thursday, Oct. 28 another Lego program will feature Frankenstein’s Monster. Participants will receive their very own Frankenstein’s monster to build and take home to display to celebrate Halloween. The program is $13 and open to the first six Lego builders. Register early to reserve a spot.
