City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old Hammond man was arrested for auto theft and other charges by Officer Nick Eastham.

Skyler Forrest Mann was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of felony auto theft, driving with a suspended license with a prior offense and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.

Mann allegedly took unauthorized control of a blue 2014 Chevrolet Cruz, owned by Jordan Battin, who told police he had gone into the Casey’s store on Bloomington Street to buy doughnuts and found his car missing when he came out.

Eastham first encountered Mann trying to hitchhike along Bloomington Street and gave him a ride to the McClure station.

The officer next saw the suspect talking with his father, Animal Control Officer Terry Eastham, as the latter pulled into Casey’s.

Mann then reportedly got into the Battin car and left the Casey’s lot, heading south on Bloomington Street at a high rate of speed.

Officer Eastham followed, and after a short pursuit, was able to pull the suspect over near the Owl Ridge Events Center entrance along U.S. 231.

• At 11:56 a.m. Friday, Hayden Michael Davis, 18, Roachdale, was arrested for the reported theft of vaping devices from the Marathon station on Indianapolis Road.

Items taken were valued at $49.98.

Officer Eastham arrested Davis, who fled on foot and reportedly took off his hoodie and tossed it into the bushes along Avenue B in an effort to escape custody.

Davis was later confronted by Marathon personnel at the North Salem State Bank entrance on Warren Drive before the suspect went into the bank.

After Eastham took David into custody, he was taken to the Putnam County Jail where a vaping device was discovered concealed in his underwear.

David was charged with trafficking, theft and possession of tobacco products.

One recent summons was reported by city officers.

• At 1:22 a.m. Saturday, Erin E. Caine, 37, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Stopped at Franklin and Arlington streets, Caine was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:54 p.m. on Wednesday, Larry W. Tracy, 72, Crawfordsville, was northbound on County Road 725 West in a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado. Jerry A. Williams, 45, Russellville, was southbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer.

As the two vehicles passed, Tracy’s truck struck the fender of Williams’s trailer, breaking the trailer’s A-arm, tire and axle.

Both vehicles were towed. Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9:47 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, Mandi S. Cochran, 45, Paris, Ill., was westbound on U.S. 36 when she hit a deer.
