County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 7:40 a.m. Scott A. Ezman, 48, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for auto theft, resisting law enforcement and intimidation.

Friday

• At 6:07 p.m. Joseph G. Carden, 37, Clayton, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 2:55 p.m. Heather D. Lehr, 28, Clayton, was booked in for domestic battery.

• At 11:43 a.m. Levi G. Williams, 36, Brazil, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and on an out-of-county warrant.

Thursday

• At 10:40 p.m. Jodie L. Lucas, 48, Poland, was lodged at the jail for possssion of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 10:27 p.m. Tiffany C. N. Kelly, 31, Poland, was taken into custody for possssion of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 9:13 p.m. Ryan M. Coble, 24, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for violation of home detention.

• At 5:47 p.m. Pamela A. Scott, 46, Russellville, was booked in on a warrant.

City Police

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 5:37 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on North Arlington Street near Highwood Avenue.

Payton Pritchard, 30, Greencastle, was northbound on Arlington Street, entering the curve near Highwood, when his 2013 Chevrolet Cruz slid on wet pavement, striking a southbound 2008 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Bryan Langdoc, 42, Greencastle. Pritchard said he might have been going a little faster than he should have going into the curve.

Langdoc told Capt. Chris Jones that he saw the Pritchard vehicle coming and swerved to the right but his car was still sideswiped.

Total damage in the mishap was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 1:18 p.m. Friday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on the Walmart superstore parking lot off Indianapolis Road.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Stella Soots, 80, Cloverdale, was attempting to turn left into a handicapped parking space when her 2018 Kia Sportage struck a motorized Walmart cart being ridden by Lucy Woodall, 65, Bainbridge.

Woodall was in the car on the yellow-lined area when she was struck, Eastham reported.

Woodall was transported to Putnam County Hospital with lower back pain and left arm pain.

Damage in the accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Three motorists were cited recently by GPD officers.

• At 12:14 p.m. Sunday, Colt Gardner, 33, Greencastle, was given two citations by Reserve Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped at Indianapolis Road and Warren Drive, Gardner was ticketed for an infraction of driving with a suspended license and for having an expired plate (May 2021).

• At 10:57 p.m. Sunday, Bryn Jones, 27, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Alec Pettit.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Jones was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• At 9:52 p.m. Sunday, Laura Lawson, 61, Greencastle, was issued two citations by Officer Pettit.

Stopped on Bloomington Street, Lawson was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license and failure to yield right of way.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:27 p.m. on Friday, Jonathan R. Crawford, 40, Roachdale, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2017 Nissan Rogue when he hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:52 p.m. on Wednesday, Raymond L. Kramer III, 41, Coatesville, was southbound on Heritage Drive in a 2013 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer. Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:49 p.m. on Wednesday, Justice C. Duke, 17, Avon, was eastbound on State Road 236 in a 2018 Volkswagen Passat when he fell asleep at the wheel.

The car crossed the westbound lane and then hit a tree, deploying the airbags.

Deputy Deal estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The car was towed.

• At 5:31 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, Cpl. Brian Helmer was dispatched to a vehicle off the road at 636 Gettysburg at Heritage Lake. The vehicle had fled the scene, with the caller saying the driver had exited the vehicle, had urinated all over his shorts, and then got back in and fled.

While still en route, Helmer got another call of a vehicle in a ditch at County Road 800 North and 675 East. The vehicle matched the same description.

Helmer arrived at the scene to find Jeremy M. Crist, 42, Brownsburg, behind the wheel of a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, apparenlty heavily intoxicated.

Crist admitted to drinking vodka and that he’d had too much.

The driver was too intoxicated to complete any of the standard field sobriety tests, and subsequently tested at .346 on a portable breath test.

He was transported ot Putnam County Hospital for a certified test and then booked in the Putnam County Jail.

The vehicle was towed. Helmer, assisted at the scene by Deputy Daniel Birt, estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 recent incidents:

• At 3:19 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 478 E. Ridgeland Rd. for a gas leak behind the residence. Firefighters arrived at 3:27 and determined a gas line had been cut. Firefighters monitored the air quality until CenterPoint Energy arrived. GFD went back into service at 5:32 p.m.

• At 10:13 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:17 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:31 p.m.

• At 11:09 p.m. last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Gamma Delta on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. The alarm was reset by DePauw police prior to GFD’s arrival at 11:14. GFD went back into service at 11:22 p.m.

• At 2:17 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of State Road 240 and Warren Drive. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:22 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 2:37 p.m.

• At 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Gamma Delta on the DePauw University campus for a gas odor in the basement. Firefighters arrived at 3:55 and found carbon monoxide. Gas appliances were shut off and the building was ventilated. GFD went back into service at 4:22 p.m.

• At 10:45 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Acute Medical Care for smoke in the building. Firefighters arrived at 10:47 and found wires in a breaker panel had overheated. The panel was shut off and Duke shut down the power. GFD went back into service at 11:31 a.m.

• At 12:14 p.m. on Friday, GFD came onto an unauthorized burn at 1105 Avenue E. Firefighters found the homeowner was burning branches and leaves. GFD advised the homeowner of the city burn ordinance and extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 12:25 p.m.

• At 5:10 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Arlington Street and Ridge Avenue for a cat in a tree. Firefighters arrived at 5:14 and were unable to retrieve the cat. GFD went back into service at 5:44 p.m.

• At 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:30 and could not find a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:47 p.m.

• At 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and 10th Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:20 and cleaned fluids from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 6:07 p.m.

• At 8:56 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:57 and could not find a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:04 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 13 medical assists and had one disregard.
