Cloverdale officers save choking female
CLOVERDALE — A busy evening for town police officers was highlighted by saving a young woman from choking on Tuesday.
Night shift Deputy Marshal Virgil Lanning and Reserve Deputy Marshal Sam Fogle had just finished assisting a motorist who had locked her keys in her car when they were approaching by a woman saying her daughter was in the car and she was choking.
The woman whose car had been unlocked happened to be a medical student, so she ran to the vehicle along with Lanning and Fogle. Lanning observed the young woman to be unconscious and immediately started to work on her.
After calling Putnam County EMS, Lanning and Fogle took turns working on the female until Lanning dislodged the chip in her airway with the Heimlich maneuver.
After being checked by medics the female left with her family, thanking the the officers profusely.
A short time later, while investigating a theft, the officers were notified by a Good Samaritan of a vehicle on fire.
Lanning and Fogle called for the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department, which was able to extinguish the fire.
