County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 12:08 a.m. Arianna M. McCracken, 19, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery

Wednesday

• At 11:51 p.m. Dustin J. McCracken, 27, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for domestic battery.

Tuesday

• At 5:19 p.m. Oceaia N. Boetjer, 31, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a warrant.

• At 3:33 p.m. Ronnie R. Bowling, 30, Crawfordsville, was booked in on a warrant.

Monday

• At 2:37 p.m. Daniele R. McIntosh, 32, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a Johnson County warrant and for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 2:35 p.m. Coty A. Gray, 26, Terre Haute, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 9:56 a.m. Cody R. Southgate, 26, Plainfield, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

City Police

One arrest and one traffic accident were reported recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 12:14 a.m. Thursday, Eli M. Simenauer, 27, Indianapolis, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Simenauer was arrested in a parking lot along Castlebury Drive and faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicted and leaving the scene of an accident.

Booked into the Putnam County Jail, Simenauer reportedly registered a blood-alcohol concentration of .138 percent under breathalyzer testing.

McDaniel also reported that Simenauer’s vehicle struck a car at the Speedway station at Round Barn Road and Indianapolis Road as he fled the scene.

• At 5:13 p.m. Sunday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Indianapolis Road and 10th Street.

Stacie Campbell, 49, Greencastle, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, entering the intersection in a 2014 Ford Escape when her vehicle was struck by a southbound 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Gregory Nauman, 61, Greencastle.

Capt. Chris Jones estimated total damage at $5,000-$10,000.

Campbell and a witness said she had the green light as she entered the intersection from the east as Nauman arrived from the north side of 10th Street.

Nauman said he saw the light turn yellow, however, the witness told police the light was red for Nauman.

Nauman said he attempted to brake to avoid a collision but was unable to do so.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Robert E. Shelton, 71, Crawfordsville, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox when he hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 8:18 a.m. on Saturday, Nicholas O. Jarvis, 23, Terre Haute, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. In front of Jarvis was Amber D. Holman, 33, Bainbridge, in a 2014 Ford Escape.

Holman told Deputy Todd Hopkins there was a vehicle in front of her that abruptly stopped to turn into a driveway. She hit her brakes quickly to avoid hitting the turning vehicle.

Jarvis also attempted to stop quickly, but could not avoid running into the back of Holman’s vehicle.

Jarvis’s car had to be towed.

Hopkins, who was assisted at the scene by Deputy Kyle Lee, estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6:55 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, Lauren L. Koger, 29, Fillmore, was stopped southbound on County Road 525 East, waiting to turn left onto U.S. 40 in a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse.

Koger told Deputy Soilleux she saw a semi tractor approaching from the east, signaling a right turn onto 525 East. Koger said she did not see any other approaching traffic and decided to turn left onto U.S. 40 to avoid getting hit by the semi.

She said by the time she pulled far enough out to see around the semi and saw a car approaching in the fast lane, she could not get out of its way.

Lonny S. Dilley, 52, Mooresville, was westbound in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. He told Soilleux that he was westbound when the other vehicle suddenly appeared, attempting to cross the road in front of him. He said he applied the brakes but could not avoid hitting the rear end of the driver’s side of Koger’s vehicle.

The impact spun Koger’s vehicle around, as it came to rest facing north in the eastbound lanes.

Koger and the other two occupants of her vehicle spoke with medics and said they were not injured. Dilley was hesitant in his movements and complained of pain all over. He had trouble walking and moving his upper body and right arm, wrist and fingers. He was treated at the scene by medics.

Both vehicles were towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, Sheila F. O’Brien, 73, Bainbridge, was backing her 2020 Kia Sorento on Oak Leaf Drive in Greencastle when she struck a parked 2018 Ford Escort.

Deputy Hopkins estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 10:36 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, Kaydence R. Baldwin, 17, Cloverdale, was westbound on County Road 900 South in a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant.

Baldwin was approaching a curve where visibility was limited. When she met an oncoming car, she was startled then overcorrected. The pavement was wet from a recent rainstorm, and she ran off the roadway, where the vehicle rolled over in a ditch.

Both Baldwin and her passenger, 17-year-old Trinity Long of Clayton, were treated at the scene by medics an taken to the hospital by their parents.

The car was towed. Deputy Hopkins, assisted at the scene by Cpl. Brian Helmer and Sgt. Anthony Brown, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent incidents:

• At 5:07 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle malfunction on Indiana Street. Firefighters found the vehicle at 5:10 and were advised by motorists that the vehicle had a burning smell coming from a door. The door trim was removed and charring was found on its control box. Electrical to the box was unplugged and repair was advised. GFD went back into service at 5:26 p.m.

• At 6:34 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries on County Road 25 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:44 and only assisted personnel. GFD went back into service at 7:05 a.m.

• At 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 1132 Indianapolis Rd. for a carbon monoxide incident. Firefighters arrived at 2:53 and found that a furnace was malfunctioning. Gas to the furnace was shut off and the property was ventilated. Repairing the furnace was recommended. GFD went back into service at 3:08 p.m.

• At 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, an individual arrived at GFD and advised of a smoke detector malfunction at 208 E. Walnut St. Firefighters arrived at 4:25 and turned power off to a breaker box and removed a detector in the basement to stop the alarm. GFD went back into service at 4:53 p.m.

• At 9:02 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 802 Washington St. for a dumpster fire. Firefighters arrived at 9:04 to find that the garbage inside was smoldering. The garbage was saturated with water. GFD went back into service at 9:11 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed seven medical assists and had five disregards.
