Washburn DAR announces Wreaths Across America event

Monday, October 11, 2021

The Washburn Chapter of the NSDAR has teamed with Wreaths Across America to remember our fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve and teach your children the value of freedom.

The goal is to sponsor as many wreaths as possible to cover veterans’ graves on the annual National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 18 at noon at Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle..

How you can help: Go to the DAR website and order wreaths. They are fresh natural wreaths that are nominally priced at $15 each. If 2000 citizens could sponsor a wreath or if 200 local businesses, associations and clubs could sponsor 10 wreaths each, we could cover almost all the known veteran graves in historic Forest Hill Cemetery, a formidable task. Washburn Chapter would also need help laying the wreaths on the appropriate graves.

Persons can order grave specific requests on the following website: Washburn’s website is: https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/.../ 167839/Overview/...

You can also send checks to our coordinator who will forward on to WAA. Make the check out to WAA and mail it to Diana Brumfield, WAA location coordinator, at 324 E. CR 1125 South, Cloverdale, IN 46120. If you would like a poster to display, email a request to Dianabrumfield@gmail.com. If you would like information on how to add another Putnam County Cemetery, also send an email.

There will be a formal and respectful ceremony at the Forest Hill Cemetery at noon on Dec. 18. Plans include prayer, songs, special wreath laying for each branch of the armed services, Honor Guard and “Taps.” Local residents are urged attend and bring your children teach them the value of freedom.
