Each member of the Mary Allison Children’s Trust’s board of directors has an allotment available to them at the beginning of each calendar year to assist with projects, items or services outside the scope of its project grants and elementary school distributions.

If a board member sees a need or is contacted by a Putnam County school, they have the discretion to use their allotment to assist upon review of the request.

Last spring, board members Donna Houser and Ginger Scott shared in assisting North Putnam Middle School’s Outdoor Education Experience. The program has been a part of North Putnam for three decades and started at McCormick’s Creek State Park. Now students attend Camp Tecumseh YMCA.

Students learn about the foundations of success as they explore nature near the Wabash River. The middle school has always done this for the sixth-grade class as they merge together from the two elementary schools in the corporation.

The program was not feasible last year due to COVID restrictions. Educators realized that the class of 2027 did not have the chance to bond like the others. However, thanks to a donation of $1,000, NPMS will be able to take both the seventh- and sixth-grade classes for the 2021-22 school year.

“Outdoor learning is one of the best ways to learn, and North Putnam is thankful that the Mary Allison Children’s Trust understands that,” sixth-grade team leader Jessyca South said.
