Putnam County sheriff’s deputies recently investigated four property-damage crashes.

• At 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Dartagnan T. Neudeck, 18, Reelsville, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2007 Ford Focus when he hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jaron C. Moncur, 48, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 75 South in a 2004 Freightliner Columbia pulling a farm trailer with approximately 70,000 pounds of corn.

Moncur was going up a hill on a curve when the engine failed. At this point, he lost power and brakes and the vehicle came down the hill and backward into a ditch.

The road was damaged from the trailer digging into the pavement.

The semi was towed. Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:51 p.m. on Wednesday, Mindy S. Earley, 32, Rockville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in Brick Chapel in a 2020 Ford Expedition when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, Deputy Robert Soilleux was dispatched to an abandoned vehicle on Rangeline Road.

Soilleux arrived to find an overturned 2019 Toyota Camry, with the engine and exhaust cool to the touch. The doors were locked and there were footprints in the mud around the passenger side and rear of the vehicle. No one was located in a search of the immediate area.

Soilleux said it appeared by the marks that the car had been westbound on Rangeline Road and failed to make a turn, instead driving straight into the ditch on the south side. After entering the ditch, the car traveled about 80 feet farther before coming to a stop upside down.

The next day, the owner, Naiya C. Patel, 19, Lebanon, contacted police because of the hold placed on her vehicle. She told police she had crashed her car when she and her husband were on their way home to Greencastle from work at the Fillmore gas station.

She told Soilleux she was not intoxicated and that when she and her husband were not injured, the decided to walk home instead of calling police or waking the property owners.

Patel was charged with misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.

Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
