Crystal Barker of Greencastle passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Oct. 22, 2021 at age of 92 years.

She was born in Fillmore on Aug. 16, 1929 to Herman and Kathleen (Hart) Day.

She graduated from Fillmore High School in the class of 1947. Crystal married Carl Barker on Sept. 17, 1948, and they were married 65 years.

He preceded her in death, as did their beloved granddaughter, Jana Barker, and great-grandchildren Kendall Christopher and Kaylee Marie Hornick.

Survivors include sister Doris Sechman; sons Terry (Jay), Rodney (Sue) and Jeffrey (Joanna); daughters Deanna Weeks (Gene) and Letitia Greenlee (Deloss); 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was devoted to her family and friends, never missing an opportunity to be with any and all of them.

Crystal loved her church (Fillmore United Methodist) and played the piano and organ there from the age of 9 until she was in her 70s. She also played for more than 100 weddings and numerous funerals. She often entertained the staff and residents at Autumn Glen Assisted Living.

Crystal was Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge 115. She retired from the State Highway after 20 years as secretary and radio operator.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until time for funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Hopkins-Rector in Greencastle with Rev. Bryan Palmer-Smith officiating. Burial will follow at New Providence Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank past and present staff at Mill Pond and Autumn Glen for their outstanding care of our loved one. Crystal’s life was beautifully enhanced by so many friends who took time from their busy lives to visit her on a regular basis. The extraordinary love and care shown to her by her caregiver (Kathy Rich) of the past two years is one of Crystal’s greatest blessings. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
