Park Department announces annual pie-baking contest
The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department will hold its Seasonal Pie Baking Contest and fundraiser Friday, Nov. 12 at The Inn at DePauw Galleria and Room A.
Entry fee is $5 per pie. Registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 12.
Money raised will go to community youth programs.
Submit as many pies as you want in any of three categories: Pumpkin, nut pies or fruit pies. A panel of three judges will grade the pies based on taste, presentation and more.
The judges will not be allowed to know who made the pies when judging them and will be in a secluded room for the judging process. For everyone’s safety, it is asked that persons remain socially distanced and wear face coverings.
Submissions will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Galleria at The Inn at DePauw. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. Judges will be a judge for the 4-H county fair, last year’s pie champion and a university student.
Prizes will be awarded and pies will be sold at 6:30 p.m. The first-, second- and third-place winners from each category will receive ribbons and the first-place winner will receive an embroidered apron.
Because this is a fundraiser for the Parks Department Youth Program Scholarships, the pies will be sold after declaring the winners.
For allergy purposes, bring a list of ingredients for the pies. Organizers are not asking for recipes, just the list of ingredients.
