County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 2 a.m. Jamey R. Keener, 35, Jasonville, was lodged at the jail for theft, auto theft and criminal mischief.

• At 12:51 a.m. Madonna D. Boswell, 34, Coatesville, was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Sunday

• At 11:22 p.m. Mark N. Dunn, 42, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass and public intoxication.

• At 11:22 p.m. Jason D. Grimes, 37, Greencastle, was booked in for criminal trespass, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction, public intoxication and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Saturday

• At 2:57 p.m. Matthew L. Mensch, 34, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for intimidation, pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness, domestic battery, battery against a public safety official and resisting law enforcement.

• At 8:15 a.m. John D. Collins, 48, Reelsville, was taken into custody for criminal mischief.

Friday

• At 11:45 a.m. Sandra R. Sanchez, 34, Greencastle, was housed at the jail fro probation violation.

• At 9:21 a.m. Ashley H. Wagner, 36, Greencastle, was booked in on a Marion County warrant.

• At 9:18 a.m. Devennair D. Gee, 34, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for trafficking with an inmate outside a facility.

• At 5:50 a.m. Dustin M. Tippin, 46, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 2:41 a.m. Mahaley E. Riley, 23, Cloverdale, was booked in for public intoxication.

Thursday

• At 2:35 p.m. Kirsten L. Phillips, 30, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated nine recent property-damage crashes.

• At 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, Melissa A. Wright, 21, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 200 West preparing to turn left into her driveway in a 2017 Honda Civic. Michael E. Fife, 29, Greencastle, was also southbound in a 2011 Chevrolet Colorado.

Wright told Reserve Deputy Tom Helmer she was making her left turn when the right rear of her car was struck by Fife’s pickup. Fife told officers he did not observed Wright slowing down, as he did not see her brake lights or turn signal activated until it was too late.

A check of the car revealed that Wright’s lights were working properly.

Helmer, who was assisted at the scene by Cpl. Scott Ducker, estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 7:24 p.m. on Saturday, Dustin L. Moore, 34, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2022 Kia Telluride when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed due to the damage. Deputy Josh Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 4:52 p.m. on Friday, Johnathan W. Coffman, 27, Indianapolis, was southbound on County Road 825 East in a 2009 Pontiac G6. Cole Dugan, 25, Whiteland, was northbound in a 2013 Chevrolet Impala.

Coffman told Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer that as he approached a curve to the right, he was unable to make the turn due to speed and the wet road. Instead, the car crossed the center line and struck Dugan’s car.

Both cars were towed. Tesmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:04 a.m. on Friday, Brian Pershing, 48, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2013 Honda Civic. Yermin P. Acosta Martinez, 37, Indianapolis, was northbound in a 2013 Honda Civic.

Pershing told Deputy Tanner Brown that Acosta Martinez turned in front of him and he was unable to avoid the collision.

Acosta Martinez did not speak English, however, a co-worker translated for him, explaining that he was northbound paying attention to his GPS and turned left to get to a job site, into Pershing’s path.

A passenger of Pershing’s vehicle complained of head pain, but no other occupants of either vehicle had complaints of pain.

Both vehicles were towed. Deputy Brown estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 4:24 a.m. on Thursday, Ora S. Flannagan, 53, Indianapolis, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2012 Chevrolet Trax when she hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 4:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Cephas Herschberger, 61, Spencer, was northbound on U.S. 231 near State Road 42 in a 2007 Honda Odyssey when he hit a deer.

Deputy Deal estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 7:44 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, Robert L. Huffman, 59, Bainbridge, was eastbound on County Road 800 North on a 1995 Honda VF750 motorcycle.

As Huffman rounded a curve, he said he approached the shoulder and ran off the road into a ditch, where he was thrown from the vehicle.

Huffman was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Deputy Deal estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent incidents:

• GFD responded to two requests to transport a wheelchair at the intersection of Frazier and Jackson streets:

­— At 8:54 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to move the wheelchair from a nearby home to the Harmless Coin Laundromat. GFD arrived at 8:56 and did so. GFD went back into service at 9:23 p.m.

— At 10:57 p.m., GFD was dispatched to move the wheelchair from the Harmless Coin Laundromat to the home. GFD arrived at 10:58 and did so. GFD went back into service at 11:24 p.m.

• At 10:12 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 3816 S. U.S. 231. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:15 and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 10:28 a.m.

• At 4:10 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:12 and found no cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:29 p.m.

• At 1:48 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 4450 Glenview Dr. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:53 and found that the alarm was in trouble mode and would not reset. Meanwhile, GFD assisted with a patient who needed an ambulance. GFD went back into service at 3:03 a.m.

• At 10:36 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:38 and determined the alarm was caused by hair care products. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:43 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 12 medical assists and had one disregard.
