In 2007, the Putnam County Community Foundation made a multi-year grant commitment to Ivy Tech Community College, which remains the largest single grant we have awarded. The initial investment of $375,000 was instrumental in getting the learning center built in Greencastle and has impacted thousands of Putnam County residents by helping to provide high-quality, local opportunities for higher learning.

It was true then and now that this grant was made in the spirit of our mission to “enrich lives and strengthen communities.”

Like Ivy Tech, the Community Foundation has grown significantly since 2007, and our belief that education is a crucial component for a successful life has only further cemented.

In the spirit of that belief, the Foundation proudly awarded an additional grant of $100,000 to Ivy Tech Greencastle in conjunction with its statewide development campaign. Between now and Dec. 31, the Community Foundation will match every dollar donated to Ivy Tech Greencastle with two dollars until we reach $100,000.

We can award this grant, and others like it, because of the many, many donors, volunteers and supporters who have placed their trust in us to ensure Putnam County remains an incredible place to call home. We do not take that trust lightly, and over the next few years, we will partner with the Ivy Tech leadership team to allocate this grant in ways that will accommodate the evolving educational needs of our county.

If equipment needs arise for a new certificate program, we can help with that. If increased scholarships help ensure a ready workforce in Putnam County, we are happy to oblige. With this grant, the Putnam County Community Foundation strives to improve access to educational opportunities for those that need them and help ensure that Ivy Tech remains an option for future generations.

The Community Foundation would not make this gift if we didn’t believe in the local leadership of Site Director Carol Whitesel, ASAP Coordinator Madison Pershing and the entire Greencastle team. So, if you or a loved one are considering a degree or certificate program to further your career, consider Ivy Tech Greencastle, an excellent investment in your future.

As for your Putnam County Community Foundation, we have awarded more than $17 million in grants and scholarships to Putnam County since 1985, with no plans of slowing down. So, if there is an organization, cause or group you want to support, odds are we can help, and we are well-equipped to do so in perpetuity.

Please stop by and see us anytime.
