Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated six recent property-damage crashes.

• At 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Deputy Josh Deal, 38, Greencastle, had backed into a gravel turn around along U.S. 231 North in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

As the Tahoe started to roll forward and make the turn, the driver’s side fender well rubbed against a tree, causing minor body damage.

Deputy Daniel Birt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:55 p.m. on Monday, K. J. Vandermark, 46, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 40 near the intersection of County Road 300 East in a 2017 Ford Transit when a deer ran into his path.

Vandermark swerved to miss the animal, but as he maneuvered back onto the road, it caught the end of the guardrail, heavily damaging the front of the van and damaging several feet of guardrail.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Birt estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 2:19 p.m. on Monday, Markus Archer, 40, Brazil, was eastbound in the left lane of U.S. 40 in a 2008 Nissan Altima. James Daye, 40, Whiteland, was behind Archer in a 2017 Chevrolet Volt.

Archer told Cpl. Scott Ducker that a vehicle in front of him slowed down abruptly to make a turn onto County Road 300 East. Archer applied his brakes to slow down and avoid the vehicle in front of him.

Daye said he had looked away from the road for a second and when he looked back, he could not apply his brakes in time to avoid a collision.

Both cars were towed. Ducker estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:16 a.m. on Monday, James W. Fraticelli, 63, Wheatfield, was turning onto County Road 150 West from Manhattan road in a 2014 International tractor pulling a trailer. Charles R. Allen, 51, Reelsville, was northbound in a 2001 Chevrolet Impala.

Fraticelli told Cpl. Brian Helmer that he did not see any headlights coming from the south when he began his turn and that he was 90-percent of the way through the turn when he heard Allen’s car strike the back passenger side of this trailer.

Allen said he saw Fraticelli’s tractor-trailer turning but that he thought the trailer was already out of the intersection and he did not see the end of the trailer before he collided with it.

Allen’s vehicle was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
