Virginia L. Thompson, 97, of Brazil, formerly of Cataract, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at 12:37 a.m. at her home.

She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Cloverdale, the daughter of Orville Ray Black and Nottie Merle McAvoy Black.

On Oct. 15, 1941, she married Lyle O. Thompson. While he served in the Army, she worked in a factory for a time. After his service to his country, they moved back to the Cataract Falls area.

She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

She has been a member of the Cataract Missionary Baptist Church for most all her life. She was active in the church in the Ladies Aide Society, Vacation Bible School and other church activities.

She also was an Avon Lady for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed going to festivals and listening to bluegrass music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother, Della Freeman Black; her sister, Annice Leonard and her husband Delbert Leonard; one niece, Kathy Weigland; her dear husband Lyle Thompson, Dec. 10, 1990, and her granddaughter, Kim Thibodeau, Aug. 31, 2021.

Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Jim and Cheryl Thompson of Brazil and daughter and son in law, Joetta and Tom Milligan of Mooresville; grandchildren, Melinda Nochez (Irving), Jenny McGinnis, grandson-in-law, Patrick Thibodeau, and Todd and Jacqueline Brackman, Ryan Brackman, nephew Randy Leonard, niece, Karmen Dayhuff; great-grandchildren, Tommy Perry, Andy Perry, Abigail Roman, Alex McGinnis, Wesley McGinnis, Miles McGinnis, Johnathan Thibodeau, Addy Thibodeau, Noah Barnhart, Noelle Barnhart, Natalie Barnhart, and Rachelle Brackman; and other extended family.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Brazil, with Pastor Kerry Clear officiating. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
