Veterans Day events set Thursday

The Honor Guard of the Greencastle American Legion and VFW gives the traditional 21-gun salute during 2020 Veterans Day ceremonies at the Putnam County Courthouse.

The traditional 11th-hour, 11th-month, 11th-day Veterans Day program is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Putnam County Courthouse in Greencastle.

The ceremony will be conducted on the north side of the courthouse.

The ceremony will include an Honor Guard of VFW and American Legion veterans firing a traditional 21-gun salute and the laying of wreaths at the base of the individual war memorials on the square.

The public is urged to attend.

Additionally, Greencastle American Legion Post 58 will host a free turkey dinner for Putnam County veterans beginning at 6 p.m.

The meal, which is free to all Putnam County veterans with one guest each, will take place at the post, 1401 E. Indianapolis Rd.

The Boy Scouts will conduct a flag ceremony prior to the meal at 5:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, Cloverdale High School will hold its Veterans Day program in the gymnasium on beginning at 9 a.m.

All veterans and active-duty service members, as well as the community, are invited. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m.

Cloverdale High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter will also provide a free breakfast for veterans from 7:15-8 a.m. in the FACS kitchen area. Visitors are asked to enter through the front doors.

Finally, Eagles Lodge 4388, 207 W. Elizabeth St., Greencastle, will be serving a veterans dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday.

All veterans eat free, while guests are $7.
