County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Tuesday

• At 7:11 p.m. Jacob D. Cherry, 30, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a warrant.

• At 6:21 p.m. Jordan A. Popendieker, 31, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for public indecency.

• At 11:25 a.m. Jeffrey W. Timm, 47, Crawfordsville, was booked in for domestic battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

City Police

One arrest was reported recently by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Tyler P. Kuras, 31, Russellville, was arrested by Sgt. Brad Hiatt.

Taken into custody at a South Locust Street residence, Kuras was arrested and lodged in the Putnam County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and on a Marion County warrant for unlawful possession of a syringe and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Two citations were issued recently by City Police officers.

• A 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Courtney Lary 25, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Reserve Officer Jason Norman.

Stopped at Hillsdale Drive and Northwood Boulevard, Lary was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• A 2:35 a.m. Nov. 10, Taylor Branson 28, Brazil, was ticketed by Officer Seth Doty.

Stopped at Bloomington and Washington streets, Branson was cited for operating a motor vehicle with no valid license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated 11 recent property-damage crashes.

• At 11 p.m. on Wednesday, William P. Garvin, 63, Greencastle, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2007 Nissan Titan.

Garvin told Deputy Robert Soilleux he could feel himself falling asleep and was attempting to pull over to rest when he dozed off and drove off the north side of the road.

The truck entered the ditch and struck some trees before coming to a stop.

The truck was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Jesse A. Hilbert, 18, Cloverdale, was eastbound on County Road 1000 South when he lost control of his 1993 GMC Sierra going into a sharp corner because of heavy rain.

The truck left the north side of the road and crashed into the guardrail, causing heavy damage to a large section.

Complaining of pain on the left side of his body, Hilbert was treated by medics at the scene.

The truck was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 7:28 p.m. on Tuesday, F. L. Amber, 35, Coatesville, was westbound on U.S. 36 near county Road 300 East in a 2016 Ford Taurus when she hit a deer.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:07 a.m. on Tuesday, Todd M. Graham, 58, Westfield, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2019 Ford Expedition when he hit a deer.

The vehicle had to be towed. Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 9:50 p.m. on Monday, Jadyn M. Griffin, 16, Brazil, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2004 Toyota Camry, attempting to turn west onto U.S. 40. Dillan E. Mounger, 22, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada.

Griffin told Deputy Daniel Birt she had the green light with the flashing yellow to turn onto westbound U.S. 40.

Mounger told Birt he had the green light to go straight and saw Griffin’s car in the left turn lane. As she continued into the intersection, he said he thought she was going to drive past him, but then turned toward his vehicle at the last second and he could not avoid the collision.

Both vehicles were towed. Mounger was cited for driving without financial responsibility.

Birt estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:31 a.m. on Monday, Kenneth W. Kolp, 56, Greencastle, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis when he hit a deer.

Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:34 a.m. on Saturday, Michael G. Seaman, 56, Greencastle, was traveling on U.S. 231 in a 2011 Hyundai Elantra when he hit a deer.

The car was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:19 a.m. on Saturday, Jennyer L. Warner, 49, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala when she hit a deer.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 7:34 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, Kevin R. Kindred, 64, Pawnee, Ill., was westbound on U.S. 36 east of U.S. 231 when he hit a deer.

Cpl. Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, Comodore Davis Jr., 80, Indianapolis, was attempting to turn left off of westbound U.S. 36 into the Groveland BP in a 2010 Jeep Liberty.

Davis was have a medical issue at the time and as he turned into the gas station, he hit a parked 2020 Peterbilt 337 registered to Pizza Wholesale of Lexington that was making a deliver to the station.

Once it was determined that Davis was suffering from some sort of medical issue, he was transported to Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville for further treatment.

The car was towed. Deputy Todd Hopkins, assisted by Cpl. Helmer, estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, Laura K. Honey, 42, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a GMC Acadia when she hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent incidents:

• At 6:52 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 697 Westlane Rd. for an odor of smoke. Firefighters arrived at 6:57 and monitored the property. No cause for the odor was found, and firefighters advised to contact GFD if the odor came back. GFD went back into service at 7:53 p.m.

• At 1:13 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Bishop Roberts Hall on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:18 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:28 a.m.

• At 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries near Rescare Homecare. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 3:14 and cleared debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 3:29 a.m.

• At 2:42 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of State Road 240 and County Road 275 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:50 and cleared debris from the roadway. Duke Energy was contacted due to power lines being down. GFD went back into service at 3:25 p.m.

• At 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 500 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:53 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:58 p.m.

• At 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 415 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:42 and were advised by DePauw University police that the alarm had been reset. GFD went back into service at 10:51 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed nine medical assists.
