Fillmore has movement on new reserve

FILLMORE — With police coverage in Fillmore being brought up recently, there is movement with having a new reserve deputy.

In his monthly report to the Fillmore Town Council at its short regular meeting Thursday evening, Town Marshal Darrel Bunten said he had been in contact with a potential candidate for the job.

Bunten stipulated that the new reserve would have to go through a pre-basic course, and that one locally had just finished when the candidate reached out to him. However, the candidate could go through one out of county. Bunten also advised that the town could “get on the books” for a clothing allowance.

A resident stated to the council last October that he had witnessed drug activity within the town. He also referenced speeders, which have been common. However, the overarching concern was Bunten not being able to oversee Fillmore on his own, as he is also full time with the Greencastle Police Department.

In other business, the council set a special meeting for Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. Bids for planned sidewalk installations within the town will be presented to the council by John Ellison of Kieser Consulting Group.

Along with Bunten, Clerk-Treasurer Jayna Haldeman, Town Attorney Jeff Boggess and the whole council were present for the meeting. Meanwhile, Town Utilities Operator Joe Cash was absent.

The next regular meeting of the Fillmore Town Council is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Fillmore Town Hall.
