County Jail

Several people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 2:55 a.m. Clarence W. Gilmore, 33, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for domestic battery.

Sunday

• At 6:09 a.m. Eric L. Billings, 36, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 1:17 a.m. Valeria A. Vaughn, 39, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 4 p.m. Donald. L. Dixie, 41, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and invasion of privacy.

Thursday

• At 10:47 p.m. Gwynn E. Smith, 18, Terre Haute, was booked in for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

• At 3:43 p.m. Brandon W. Wagner, 32, Reelsville, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, domestic battery and invasion of privacy.

• At 3:28 p.m. Justin M. Curtis, 28, Terre Haute, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 2:12 p.m. Thomas C. Caldwell, 30, Danville, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 1:33p.m. Johnathan G. Hyde, 19, Bainbridge, was booked in for possession of paraphernalia.

City Police

A pair of early morning weekend accidents resulted in arrests for drunk driving, Greencastle City Police reported.

• At 3:18 a.m. Sunday, Taral Patel, 21, Tacoma, Wash., was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Patel was taken into custody on Fillmore Road after his 2022 Toyota Highlander struck the rear bumper of a Freightliner utility truck that was parked along Fillmore Road. Colin Brown, 18, Vincennes was the truck driver.

He spotted the Patel vehicle turning south off County Road 50 South at a high rate of speed without its headlights in operation.

The Patel vehicle, which was totaled, ended up under the Freightliner bumper, which was damaged along with some rear controls of the truck. Police estimated damage at $25,000-$40,000.

Patel was arrested and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment. He registered .245 percent under PBT blood-alcohol testing.

• At 3:43 a.m. Saturday, Jeffrey Tincher, 50, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman after a traffic accident on South Jackson Street, just north of Poplar Street.

Tincher was northbound, driving a 1999 Dodge Ram when his truck drifted to the right and struck a parked 2012 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Brody Jackson, Greencastle. Impact snapped Tincher’s axle and pushed the Jackson truck forward and 15 feet to the right.

Total damage was estimated in excess of $10,000.

Under portable blood alcohol testing, Tincher registered .12 percent blood-alcohol concentration.

He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a prior and for operating perse.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to 13 incidents:

• At 9:24 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:31 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:07 a.m.

• At 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:56 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:07 p.m.

• At 2:43 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for a tree down at 420 N. College Ave. Firefighters arrived at 2:52 and found that the power line was in a tree and on top of a vehicle. Duke Energy was contacted and the homeowner advised they would be away while a utility pole was repaired. GFD went back into service at 3:05 a.m.

• At 3:31 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 88 E. CR 300 South for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 3:42, cut it up and removed it. GFD went back into service at 4:03 a.m.

• At 3:42 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 2491 S. CR 250 West for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 3:53 and removed it. GFD went back into service at 4 a.m.

• At 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the intersection of Fairview and Center streets for an electrical hazard. Firefighters arrived at 6:40 and found a tree hanging on power lines. Duke Energy was notified and GFD removed part of the tree before the lines were secured. GFD went back into service at 7:55 a.m.

• At 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 2540 E. CR 50 South for a tree in the roadway. Firefighters found the tree at 8:04 a.m. and removed it. GFD went back into service at 8:24 a.m.

• At 9:02 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 3750 S. CR 150 West for tree debris in the roadway. Firefighters found the debris soon after and removed it. GFD went back into service at 9:05 a.m.

• At 11:23 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for a tree blocking the alleyway at 101 W. Berry St. Firefighters found the tree at 11:31 and removed it. GFD went back into service at 11:48 a.m.

• At 11:56 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was to 3633 S. CR 300 West for a tree on a power line. Firefighters found the tree at 12:08 p.m. and notified Duke Energy. GFD went back into service at 12:25 p.m.

• At 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 750 S. Fillmore Rd. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:49 and assisted with patient care and cleaned debris and fluid from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 2:43 a.m.

• At 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at 335 Greenwood Ave. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:37 and found that a utility pole was damaged. Duke Energy was contacted and GFD went back into service at 1:53 p.m.

• At 2:53 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 924 Sherwood Dr. for a small shed fire next to the residence. Firefighters arrived at 2:58 and extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 3:21 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 11 medical assists and did not find an incident on one dispatch.
