James ‘Tex” Ritter

James “Tex” Ritter, 92, formerly of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1929, at Dana to Ralph and Ruby Ritter.

He graduated from Tangier High School in 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953.

Jim married Kathleen “Kathy” Ritter on Aug. 28, 1955, and shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. He worked at IBM Corporation for 32 years.

Jim was a member of the Brick Chapel United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. He was also Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 97 for many years. 

He loved horses, was a farrier and raced Trottingbred ponies for 20 years in the Midwest and Florida. In retirement, he also enjoyed doing ornamental blacksmithing and sharing what he made with friends and family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kathy, currently of Fishers, son David (Cindy) Ritter, daughter Deb (Ken) Carrell and many friends and family. Also, surviving are his beloved three grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie) Carrell, Megan Carrell and Kelly Ritter, and one great-grandson, Karson. His sister Alice Masterson also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Raymond Ritter.

Jim’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service that will be conducted at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle on Monday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. The service will be officiated by Rev. Steve Brackney.

Internment at a later date will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport.
