Marcia Ellen Zimmerman passed away peacefully with family by her side on Dec. 16, 2021 at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Facility at the age of 85.

Marcia was born on Jan. 7, 1936 in Greencastle. She was the daughter of Martha and Paul Collett of Bainbridge and was a graduate of Bainbridge High School in 1955.

She married Glen Zimmerman on Oct. 14, 1955.

Marcia is survived by her four children, Rodney (Cheen) Zimmerman of Lebanon, Randy (Margie) Zimmerman of Greencastle, Becky (Doug) Stokes of Peoria, Ill., and Rodger (Tammy) Zimmerman of Coatesville. She also had seven grandchildren, Samantha (Craig) Franklin, Eric Zimmerman, Emily (Rex) Huffman, Grant (Janet) Zimmerman, Stephanie (Ricky) McMaken, Mikkinzie Stokes and Brody Perrine. Her brother David (Patty) Summers and eight great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brayden, Hadley and Gavin Franklin, Eleanor Huffman, Jadon and Luka Zimmerman and Carter Dewbrew.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim Summers and John Collett.

Marcia worked at several local businesses in Bainbridge throughout the years, including Hank’s Grocery and Dry Goods and Bob-Kat Grocery, and she managed the Citgo gas station. She was also a school bus driver for North Putnam Schools before moving to Indianapolis in 1986. While living in Indianapolis, she became a cook at the Coach & Horses Restaurant and went on to become the kitchen manager at the Coachman Restaurant in Plainfield before retiring in 2002.

Marcia loved to cook and anyone who walked through her doors were always asked “Have you eaten yet? I can fix you something if you haven’t.” Her greatest love was for her children, all of her grandchildren and their families. She will be most fondly remembered as a loving mom, Grandma Z and GiGi.

The family would like to give a special “Thank you” to Christie, Amy and Megan at Anew Hospice and all of the friendly staff at Brownsburg Meadows Nursing Facility for the compassion and love their mom received while under their care.

Graveside services will be on Jan. 7 at Bainbridge Cemetery at 1 p.m., with an 86-balloon launch afterward to wish her a happy heavenly birthday.
