Three killed in one-vehicle accident Saturday on icy I-70
PUTNAMVILLE -- While Saturday’s freezing rain and sleet brought on a barrage of motor vehicle accidents, especially along U.S. 40 and Interstate 70, by far the worst incident resulted in the deaths of three members of a Missouri family in a one-vehicle accident about a mile west of the Putnam-Clay county line.
Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported that at approximately 2:15 p.m. Saturday, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-70 westbound near the 24-mile marker that claimed three lives.
The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Jeremy Lewis revealed that Glen A. Jackson, 58, of New Madrid, Mo., was driving a 2004 Buick westbound on I-70 when he encountered icy road conditions.
Consequently, Jackson lost control of the vehicle, veering off the north side of the interstate. Police said the vehicle rolled several times before coming to an abrupt stop upon striking a tree.
Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures on the occupants, but three individuals unfortunately succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
In addition to the driver, Glen A. Jackson, also pronounced dead as a result of the Saturday afternoon accident were Rose M. Jackson, 57, and Amber Johnson, 35, all from New Madrid, Mo.
One juvenile was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Cloverdale and Reelsville fire departments assisted at the scene along with Posey Township Fire Department, Jackson Township Fire Department, , Clay County Coroner’s Office, multiple ambulance services and Edington’s Wrecker Service.
