WASHINGTON, D.C. – Indiana 4th District Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) has announced his legislative priorities for 2022.

“This year, I will continue building on the promises I made when I came to Congress,” Baird said this week, listing those promises as “standing for conservative principles by protecting Hoosiers’ Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, defending the lives of the unborn, and fighting against any policies that advance the foothold of socialism in the United States.

“Keeping these principles in mind,” Baird added, “I will continue my efforts to decrease federal spending and stand against government overreach, with a focus on finding solutions that will improve lives for Hoosiers, enhance rural communities and the farm economy, and support our nation’s veterans.”

Maintaining a safe and prosperous community requires that law enforcement officers are provided with tools and support to perform their jobs effectively is important, Baird said. “Throughout the next year, I will continue working with local law enforcement and my colleagues in Congress to close loopholes exploited by criminals and help officers enforce the law.”

Rep. Baird, a Vietnam veteran, addressed the “tremendous sacrifices” veterans make to protect and defend the United States.

“It’s crucial ,” he added, “that we support those who have made such significant contributions to our nation. As Vice Chair of the For Country Caucus, I have renewed my ongoing commitment to be a champion for veterans. It is an honor to advance solutions that make sure veterans receive the support that they have earned, and their unique needs are met.”

As a leader on the House Agriculture Committee, Baird is also dedicated to supporting agriculture and rural communities.

He said some of the rural issue include “working to secure better government solutions to bring improved broadband connectivity to our rural areas and, as always, ensure that the voices of Hoosier farmers are heard as we develop the 2023 Farm Bill.”

“I fully understand the importance of our agricultural industry to food and national security, and I seek to lead in facilitating innovation in this industry. I’ll continue to support agricultural research and work to eliminate onerous regulations that inhibit the industry’s ability to innovate.”

Baird said he is “continually honored by the opportunity to serve the people of Indiana’s 4th Congressional District,” and looks forward to promoting important legislation that “enhances lives and brings impactful value to west-central Indiana.”

  • Isn’t much of the Farm Bill a “foothold of socialism”?

  • Yes it is.

  • Louis,

You do understand that most of the spending in the farm bill has nothing to do with the farm.

If you look at the programs and what the so called farm bill funds, all would realize it really isn’t a farm bill.

Glad I am not the only one that notices how easily he speaks out of both sides of his mouth...and his @$$...all at the same time!

Did you know he was in Vietnam? Starting to sound like John Kerry... give it a rest, Jim.
