EDITOR'S NOTE: While the Billy Vietor exhibit at the Putnam County Museum remains in place, the talk from Howard Kendall has been postponed. The new date will be shared when it has been determined.

Do you have grandpa’s squirrel gun squirreled away in the attic? Do you have a powder horn saved from the trash man?

Do you have some “shambles” that you need advice about? Are you curious about how our ancestors put meat on the table?

On display currently at the Putnam County Museum are many of Reelsville master gunsmith Billy Vietor’s handcrafted patterns, tools and molds and a selection of his beautifully crafted firearms. This exhibit has been made possible with the help of Vietor’s family and local muzzleloading enthusiasts.

In conjunction with the museum exhibit about Vietor, a presentation is planned by local gunsmith Howard Kendall, who will talk, advise and identify shooting- and hunting-related items.

Originally scheduled for Jan. 22, the talk has been postponed at this time.

Kendall has smithed his own muzzleloaders and built a few under the tutelage of Vietor.

Once a new date is announced, persons can preregister for this event by calling the museum at 653-8419 if they are interested in bringing an item for identification or need further information.

The Putnam County Museum is located at 1105 N. Jackson St. in Greencastle. Masks are required and seating is limited.
