ELLETSVILLE – North Putnam was the only school to have all 14 wrestlers place at the WIC Wrestling Meet, helping the team finish as runner-up to champions Owen Valley Saturday afternoon.

“It was a great day for Cougar wrestling at WIC on Saturday,” North Putnam head coach Michael Murphy said. “We went into the day knowing we had a shot at coming home as the champs or at minimum runner-up.

“I told them it was going to be a dog fight until the end. That is exactly what happened between us and Indian Creek for the runner-up position.”

The Cougars had one champion on the day in Arrick Kramer, who defeated Luke Ray of the Braves by a 5-0 decision at 160 pounds.

North Putnam had two other finalists in George Selmeister at 113 pounds and Lucas Murphy at 182 pounds while Cameron Hankins placed third at 170 pounds.

Fourth-place finishers for the Cougars included Quenton Brown (126), Matt Parker (132), Zach Parker (138), Doug O’Hair (145) and Seth Fuhrman (220) while Emily Parker (106), Corie Stancombe (120), Jake Moncur (195) and Blake Sparks (285) finished fifth and Braden Glaze (152) finished sixth.

“To say I am proud of what these kids have been able to accomplish this year is an understatement,” Murphy said. “We were the only team in the conference to place a kid in every weight class.

“That in itself is a huge accomplishment for all the hard work these kids have put in this year.”

Greencastle finished in eighth place with Cooper Robinson (120), Lemar Moore (182) and Kody Roberts (285) finishing third, Trentan Campbell (170) in fourth and Chris Olson (160) in sixth place.

Cloverdale finished ninth overall with Matthew Halloran finishing as runner-up at 152 pounds, Xavier Evans (132) finished third while Jakob Compton (113) placed fifth and Daphanie Geiger (138) finished sixth.

South Putnam placed 10th overall with Ethan Harcourt (220) leading the way with a third-place finish. Jon Mitchell (285) placed fourth and Logan Tomaw (132) placed sixth.
