An 80-year-old woman died Sunday evening when her car crashed into a tree.

Louella Burnett of Fillmore was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Around 7 p.m., police, firefighters and EMS were dispatched to the intersection of County Road 50 South and County Road 300 East.

Burnett was apparently southbound on 300 East in a Dodge Durango and did not stop at the T-intersection with 50 South, proceeding straight across the road and crashing head-on into the tree.

Deputy Derek Line of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported no skid marks on the road leading up to the crash.

Putnam County Coroner Jon Myers told the Banner Graphic an autopsy was set for Tuesday. It is unclear if Burnett actually died as a result of the crash or if a possible medical issue may have caused the accident.

  • This is so sad. There is a recent obituary of her son passing away. I didn't know her but knew of her. She was a sweet lady. Sending prayers to this family.
