Florence Ann Ensor, 95, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022 at the Mill Pond Health Campus surrounded by family.

She was born in Greencastle on Flag Day, June 14, 1926, to the late John (Jack) and Emma Jane (Gorham) Garl.

Florence married Kenneth Warren Ensor on Dec. 23, 1945, in Greencastle, and they were married 42 years. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1988.

She worked various jobs in her early years, including the Putnam County Auditor’s office, but she cherished most being a house mother of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at DePauw University from 1989 to her retirement in 2003. She absolutely loved her boys at the Phi Delts.

She was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge but her claim to fame was being the matriarch of five generations of family. She was known as Nanny, and she let you know it! Her favorite thing to do was the playing sets and runs and euchre card games.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Darrel) Woodall of Greencastle and Teresa Sears of Greencastle; her grandchildren, Rick Woodall, Jeff (Pamela) Woodall, Wendy (Rob) Singleton, Stacey (Alan) Wyber and Christina (Jimmie) McAnally; her great-grandchildren, Sheridan (Ryan) Wilson, Rachel Ames (Jerry Martin), Austin (Cassie) Woodall, McKenzie Woodall, Tyler Singleton, Kirstin Singleton and Alex Wyber; her great-great grandchildren, Gabriella Wilson, Maddilyn Wilson, Carter Ames, Wren Ames, Augustus Woodall, Elizabeth Flo Woodall, Lane Martin, Easton Martin and Evelyn Singleton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Margaret Paris, Robert Garl, Paul Garl, Mary Garl, John Garl and Elizabeth Garl.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Forest Hill Cemetery. A celebration of life to be held following graveside services at Final Approach at the Putnam County Regional Airport, 1595 Ballard Lane, Greencastle.

The family would like to thank the Mill Pond family and Dr. Johnson for all the love and care she was blessed with.
