Primary filing deadline is Friday

Monday, January 31, 2022

With the filing deadline for the May primary just days away, candidate filings continue to come in at the Putnam County Voter Registration Office.

The filing deadline for Republicans and Democrats wishing to take part in the May 3 primary election is noon this Friday, Feb. 4.

All paperwork for local candidates must be turned in to the Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

Three new Republican filings will give some previously uncontested candidates company on the May 3 GOP ballot.

Former Putnam County Auditor Lorie Hallett-Talbert is now seeking the Republican nod for county recorder, joining current Clerk Heather Gilbert.

Meanwhile, Wayne Huffman is seeking the GOP nomination for District 1 of the Putnam County Council, an in-party challenge to current District 1 Councilman Dave Fuhrman.

Finally, Brandon Tancak is seeking the Cloverdale Town Council Ward 3 seat currently held by Cindy Holland, who is seeking another term.

Meanwhile, Greg Jay has filed to seek another term as an at-large Cloverdale town councilman.

Two county offices of note still have no candidates, as neither current District 2 Commissioner Rick Woodall nor District 2 County Councilman Jay Alcorn has filed papers to seek another term.

On the Democrat side, there are no candidates for either county or town office.

NOTE: The Friday, Jan. 28 story regarding election filings incorrectly stated that Heather Gilbert was seeking the treasurer’s office, not recorder.

Current County Treasurer Kathy Minnick was re-elected in 2020, and the office does not appear on the 2022 ballot.
