Wednesday, February 2, 2022

We are horribly saddened to announce the unexpected, sudden passing of Timothy J Hreha at the age of 70. Tim recently recovered from hospitalization and seemed on the path to improved health, but collapsed and passed away upon waking the morning of Jan. 27, 2022.

The family asks for patience and privacy as we determine specific arrangements for Tim’s celebration of life and related next steps.

Timothy Hreha was born on May 11, 1951 to parents George and Julia in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area. Tim was a longtime dedicated and beloved DePauw Tiger, having played football for and graduated from DePauw in 1973. Following graduation, Tim continued at his alma mater DePauw, where his football and track coaching career spanned decades.

Tim was extremely proud of the fact that he was the head coach who started the women’s track team at DePauw in 1981.

Tim graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in history, from DePauw on May 20, 1973 and then completed his Masters in Teaching with us, majoring in physical education, on May 22, 1977.

Tim worked at DePauw University for 41 years from July 1978 through formal retirement in June 2019, after which he continued to serve as a committed volunteer coach in football and track and field days before his death.

Timothy is predeceased by father George, mother Julia and brother George.

He is survived by his beloved partner, Patricia Gammon; her children Dave, Cliff, Kathleen and Bob Gammon; and grandchildren Robert Gammon-Pitman and Carolyn Gammon-Pitman.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at Kresge Auditorium, 605 S. College Avenue, Greencastle.
