County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 6:33 a.m. Joshua D. Hickman, 34, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetmine and criminal trespass.

• At 2:43 a.m. William D. Ferguson III, 20, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 3 p.m. Anthony W. Stevens, 42, Magolia, Del., was housed at the jail for resisting law enforcement, false informing and public intoxication.

Friday

• At 11:55 p.m. Alec N. Stevenson, 23, Quincy, Ill., was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 10:15 p.m. Kinsey S. Morgan, 26, Oakdale, La., was lodged at the jail for driving with an ACE of .15 or greater and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

• At 7:19 p.m. Ivy J. Smith, 22, Quincy, was taken into custody for battery resulting in bodily injury, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 5:15 a.m. Michael Vanevery, 41, Fillmore, was booked in for criminal mischief, intimidation, probation violation and public intoxication.

Thursday

• At 12:47 a.m. Arunas Smigelskis, 61, Lakewood, N.J., was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Wednesday

• At 8:38 p.m. Julie D. Lanham, 51, Fillmore, was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident and domestic battery.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 3:12 p.m. on Friday, Ryan Payne, 29, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 25 East in a 2018 Subaru Forester.

Traveling on the snow- and ice-covered road, Payne’s SUV left the east side of the road and hit a tree with the right front bumper. The vehicle then spun back across the road, coming to rest on its driver’s side on the west side of the road, facing south.

Payne reported head pain and had just and swelling to his face and mouth. He told Chief Deputy Matt Demmings he did not know what happened and did not know what direction he had been driving.

The reporting party, a resident of a nearby home, said upon arrival, he found the the vehicle with Payne still in it.

Demmings conducted field sobriety tests and a portable breath test, on which Payne tested at .208 alcohol concentration eqivalent. Payne was evaluationed by medics but decline medical transport.

On a subsequent certified test, Payne tested at .190 ACE. He was later booked in the jail for driving while intoxicated and driving with an ACE of .15 or greater.

Demmings was assisted by deputies Riley Houghton and Matthew Biggs.

The vehicle was towed. Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, Samantha M. Call, 29, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 125 South in a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban.

Call told Chief Deputy Demmings she was distracted because she was reaching for a bottle for a two-year-old in the back seat. The vehicle left the road and hit four mailboxes.

Demmings estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to one dispatch recently:

• At 1:49 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Tractor Supply Company for a hot smell. Firefighters arrived at 1:55 and could not determine a cause for the smell. GFD went back into service at 2:08 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed two medical assists and had two disregards.
