Teen dies in Saturday Bainbridge crash
BAINBRIDGE — A Greencastle teen died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 36 on Saturday.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., 19-year-old William Sprinkle was eastbound approaching Bainbridge in a Ford Focus.
Sprinkle lost control of his car in the spot where Main Street splits off from U.S. 36 and the highway veers to the north.
Sprinkle lost control, left the road and began skidding on the snow-covered ground approaching the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department.
The skid continued until the car collided sideways with a brick barrier surrounding flagpoles and the fire department’s marquee sign northwest of the station. Sprinkle was killed on impact.
A witness told Putnam County sheriff’s deputies that Sprinkle had passed another car at a high rate of speed just prior to impact.
While snow had been removed from road surfaces by Saturday morning, there were still slick spots along roadways, as temperatures remained low at that time.
Sprinkle’s obituary was included in the Tuesday, Feb. 8 issue of the Banner Graphic.
