REELSVILLE — A mobile home in Washington Township was destroyed in a blaze that called upon multiple fire departments late Monday morning.

A box alarm was activated at about 11:25 a.m. for a structure fire south of U.S. 40 at 8038 W. CR 875 South. It was later relayed that the home was fully involved.

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department had command and responded with an engine, a tanker and its rescue apparatus, while the Greencastle Fire Department arrived with an engine. Meanwhile, the Cloverdale Township and Madison Township volunteer fire departments, as well as the Putnamville Correctional Facility Fire Department, responded with tankers.

Along with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County EMS, manpower and a tanker also came from the Poland and Van Buren volunteer fire departments in Clay County, respectively. Parke County REMC also provided assistance.

Crews had the fire extinguished by 1 p.m. and performed salvage and overhaul. Though the home is a total loss, no injuries have been reported as it was unoccupied at the time.

Reelsville Fire Asst. Chief John McPherson told the Banner Graphic that the fire originated near the furnace, but an exact cause could not be determined due to the extent of the damage. As such, though, no foul play is suspected.

According to Putnam County GIS, the property on which the trailer was located is listed to Todd and Crystal Gorham.
