Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 12:58 a.m. on Saturday, Officer Cameron Barnett, 27, Greencastle, of the DePauw Police Department was leaving the parking lot of the Shell gas station on Bloomington Street to respond to an emergency call in a 2021 Dodge Durango registered to DePauw University.

Barnett told Deputy Josh Deal he had activated his emergency lights and siren prior to leaving the parking lot. As he approached the exit, he said he noticed a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor, driven by Haylee M. Parrish, 24, Greencastle, approaching from the south.

The officer said that it looked as if the other vehicle was trying to yield right-of-way, so he entered the road.

However, as he did so, Parrish continued north, with Barnett’s vehicle striking the side of Parrish’s.

While Deal noted in his report that Parrish failed to yield right-of-way, she was not cited.

Neither vehicle was towed. Deal estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
