DePauw men’s and women’s tennis doubles up Wittenberg

The DePauw men’s tennis team beat the Wittenberg University Tigers 8-1 at home, improving to 5-5 overall, while Wittenberg moves to 4-5.

DePauw got on the board first with Hudson Mosher and Chase Hutchinson defeating Joe Patton and Roy Jensen 8-1 at number three, followed by Cole Metzger and Ryan McCook beating Jake Stockhausen and Kyle Fout 8-2 at number two. Wyatt Metzger and Thomas Partridge defeated Brayden Kopp and John DeVito 8-5 at number one, completing the doubles sweep.

Playing number three singles, Cole Metzger beat Jake Stockhausen 6-1, 6-2, followed by DePauw’s Jake Watson, who defeated Ethan Libby 6-2, 6-0 at number five, clinching the team victory for the DePauw Tigers.

In the remaining four matches, Wyatt Metzger beat John DeVito 6-3, 6-2 at number two, and Thomas Partridge beat Brayden Kopp 6-2, 6-2 at number one. At number four, Wittenberg got on the board after Joe Patton defeated DePauw’s Gordian Bruns 6-4, 6-4; however, the DePauw Tigers came back with one more win at number six after Will Sultan beat Mark Trinka 6-2, 6-4.

The DePauw women’s tennis team also defeated the Wittenberg University Tigers 5-4 in the NCAC West Battle of the Tigers.

Wittenberg earned the match's first point after Sydney Khosla and PJ Meyers defeated Kiley Shaw and Kate Stanley 6-8 at number two. DePauw would tie the score up with Lindsay Parks and Alex Preston beating Sidney Purks and Meera Virk 8-4 at number three. Wittenberg's Ashley Isaac and Caroline Sproule would take back the lead after defeating Ellen Gardner and Kat Wilder at number one.

The Wittenberg Tigers would take a commanding 3-1 lead when Caroline Sproule defeated Kat Wilder 6-2, 6-1 at number two. DePauw's Kiley Shaw at number three, beat Sydney Khosla 6-3, 6-2 to cut Wittenberg's lead in half. The DePauw Tigers' Ellen Gardner knotted up the match at three after beating Ashley Isaac 6-4, 6-3 at number one.

Wittenberg would go up 4- 3 when Meera Virk defeated Kate Stanley 6-4, 7-5 at number four. DePauw evened the score again at number six following a comeback victory by Bella DeNardo over PJ Meyers 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Lindsay Parks battled for the deciding point, beating Sidney Purks 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.

The Tigers travel to Oberlin Saturday, March 19, to play the Yeomen and Yeowomen at 10 a.m. EDT.
