Thursday, March 31, 2022

The Hartman Center for Civic Engagement at DePauw University and Purdue Extension-Putnam County invite the public to take part in the second Supermarket Sweep on Monday, April 18.

The Supermarket Sweep is a competitive philanthropy event where teams shop for and donate needed items to local food pantries. Teams compete against one another to donate the most, along with challenges to earn more money toward their total donation.

The Putnam County 4-H Junior Leaders and the Indiana 4-H Foundation also partner with the Hartman Center and Purdue Extension on the effort, in coordination with the Putnam County Pantry Coalition.

The Supermarket Sweep will be held at the Greencastle Kroger, 821 Indianapolis Rd.

Putnam County youth groups and community organizations can participate in the competition from 6-7:30 p.m. DePauw students will then participate from 7:30-9 p.m.

Prior to the event, shoppers will be able to purchase items and gift cards for the effort from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Local food pantries that will benefit from the effort includes Grace Tabernacle, Greencastle Christian Church, New Life Baptist Church, New Providence and St. Andrew’s Non-Food Pantry in Greencastle; Roachdale Christian Church; Two Fish Food Pantry and Faith, Hope and Love Pantry in Bainbridge; Russellville Community Church; and the Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry efforts in both Bainbridge and Cloverdale.
