Michael William Shillings

Michael William Shillings passed away on March 22, 2022.

Michael was born on Aug. 30, 1953 in Oxford, England. His parents were Gloria E. Coomber and John W. Shillings.

His parents and brother came to America in 1953 on a USS Carrier Henry Gibbons, entering in New York City before settling in Putnam County.

Mike graduated from North Putnam High School in 1971, then briefly attended DePauw University.

He became an EMT and worked for Operation Life for many years until his retirement. He got great satisfaction from helping others in times of crisis and made many friends doing so.

After his retirement, Mike spend his time being a host at Don Julio’s. Michael had a great interest in the heritage of the Native Americans and served as a flag bearer during the pow-wows of the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana.

Michael is survived by his brothers, David Shillings (Jeanne) of Greencastle, Raymond Shillings (Karen) of Creedmoor, N.C., Steven Shillings of Greencastle and Andrew Shillings of Brownsburg, four nieces and three nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Al and Tina Lowe, who were there for him at the end of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
