William Warren Ramey

Monday, April 4, 2022

William Warren Ramey was born on Jan. 13, 1957, in the small town of Peoga, Ind. Bill (as he was known to his friends and family) passed away peacefully at Community Hospital East on April 2, 2022, after a valiant nine–year battle with colon cancer.

A 1975 graduate of Indian Creek High School (Trafalgar, Ind.) Bill worked many years in the marble and ceramic tile industry. He was a tile setter with Greenwood Marble & Tile at the time of his cancer diagnosis in 2013.

It was at this time his second career, as an advocate, caring and ministering to the needs of others newly diagnosed with cancer, was born. With unrelenting commitment and passion, Bill led by example, loved deeply and touched the lives of each and every one with whom he came in contact, not only in the United States, but worldwide.

Outside his support work, Bill loved to cook (once winning a chili cook-off with his much sought after recipe), enjoyed playing euchre and board games, woodworking and geocaching with friends. With a dry sense of humor and quick wit, Bill could be quite the prankster and loved bringing smiles and laughter to unsuspecting bystanders caught off guard with his latest antics.

Bill was a member of the Trafalgar Masonic Lodge 413, having served in the role of past master, and Cloverdale Christian Church.

A resident of Greenwood, Bill is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan (Voyles) Ramey; daughter, Hannah (Jason) Lafever of Jamestown; loyal side kick and lap warmer, Gizmo; sisters, Lynn Jewell of Franklin, and Barbara (Scott) Grimes of Smyrna, Tenn., and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Elmer and Mary (Williams) Ramey.

Funeral services will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home, 201 N. Lafayette St., Cloverdale, at 10 a.m. on April 7, 2022, with Pastor Travis Taylor officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 6. Burial will be at Mannan Cemetery in Quincy following the service.
