Keith Berry seeks seventh term on County Council
It has been an honor to serve on the Putnam County Council since being elected in 1998. I have tried to appropriate your tax dollars to operate the county in an efficient manner, as I believe you would.
I was raised on a farm just south of Greencastle and planted my first crop in 1965 while working at Allison in Indianapolis for 13 years to help make a living for my family. I continued farming until I retired in 2018, at which time my son Brian, daughter-in-law Lisa and grandsons Justin and Collin continued the farming operation.
Today, my wife Sharyl and I live on our farm just north of Putnamville.
Other involvements include past member of the board of directors of Co-Alliance Co-op LLP for 37 years, which is a billion-dollar company in annual sales.
I was past president of the Putnam County Pork Producers, president of Indiana Pork Producers in 1996 and president of the National Pork Producers Council in 2004. I was involved in the beginning of the South Putnam Aquaculture Program.
In 2008, we received the Putnam County Agriculture Hall of Fame Farm Family of the Year Award. In 2010, I was awarded the Master Farmer of the Year by Indiana Prairie Farmer magazine. I was recently re-elected to the board of directors of the Putnam County Farm Bureau Association.
I participated in a trade mission to China in 2010, sponsored by the Indiana Department of Agriculture, led by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman.
I have been very blessed and received more than I deserved, and I am very thankful.
I am currently serving as chairman of the pastor parish committee and trustee of the Putnamville United Methodist Church.
I believe the County Council and commissioners and county office holders have a good, open working relationship and hope that continues.
