Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Natalie M. Rinehart, 42, Danville, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas when four deer crossed the road and she could not avoid hitting the last one.

The vehicle had to be towed. Reserve Deputy Joe Tesmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

Wardenburg told Deputy Josh Clark he hit a dip in the road, which caused the steering wheel to jerk, leading to him driving off the road. The soft shoulder then pulled him into the ditch.

The truck initially hit and damaged a guardrail, then going further into the ditch once past the guardrail.

Curtis Towing had to retrieve the truck from the ditch, but then Wardenburg was able to drive it away.

Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 9:41 a.m. on Wednesday, Nellie L. Tapy, 79, Terre Haute, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in a 2015 Chrysler 200.

Tapy told Cpl. Brian Helmer the wind blew her off the road, with the car leaving the north side of the road and hitting two trash cans belonging to the property at 5531 E. U.S. 36.

The resident of the property said he was standing in his driveway and saw the car cross left of center, entering the ditch and then his driveway, where it hit the trash cans.

The car was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, Ty D. Stewart, 58, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze when he hit a deer.
