GROVELAND — A barn and the equipment within are considered a total loss following an early morning fire in northeastern Floyd Township Thursday.

At 4:02 a.m., local fire units were dispatched to a structure fire at 8476 E. CR 800 North, which is home to Aaron Bode Trucking.

Floyd Township was the first on scene, finding a metal barn already fully engulfed and mostly collapsed.

At that point, the main job was putting out the flames and keeping the fire from spreading anywhere else.

The barn housed an excavator, a fork truck and dump trucks, barrels of used oil, as well as some personal bikes and four-wheelers.

Floyd Township Fire Chief Jeff Brooks told the Banner Graphic no cause has been determined, but the building is a total loss.

In one small piece of good news, Floyd Township Capt. Brad Hildebrand reported that though the barn collapsed, the owner was able to drive two of his dump trucks out before that happened.

Responding departments from Putnam County included Floyd Township, Roachdale, Bainbridge, Fillmore and Greencastle. Given the location about a half mile from the Hendricks County line, the response also included Danville, Stilesville, North Salem, Amo and Coatesville.

Putnam County 911 Dispatch reported that even the Cataract Fire Department took a tanker to the scene.

Putnam County EMS was also on the scene, though fortunately there were no injuries.

The fire was out as of 7 a.m.
